Travel Guide for Guests Visiting Bhutan

Bhutan, known as the “Land of the Thunder Dragon,” offers an unforgettable experience of pristine nature, rich culture, and spiritual serenity. Whether you're trekking through the Himalayas, exploring ancient monasteries, or enjoying the country's vibrant festivals, a little preparation goes a long way. Here's what you need to know:

Visa Requirements

  1. Tourist Visa:
All international travelers (except citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives) must obtain a visa to enter Bhutan.

    • The visa must be applied for through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or their international partners.

    • As part of Bhutan’s tourism policy, a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is charged per night.

    • Once your trip is confirmed and payment is made, your tour operator will process the visa and email you a copy before your arrival.

    • You’ll need to show the visa clearance letter at the airport before boarding and upon arrival in Bhutan.

  2. Indian Citizens:
Indian nationals require either a valid passport or a voter ID card and must obtain a permit at the entry point. As of recent policy changes, Indian visitors also pay a daily SDF.

    • Great for trekking and photography. Notable festivals include Thimphu Tshechu.
